Shoot. Dodge. Survive.

The invaders from Mars have crossed space, and you are the last line of defense. Mars Invaders is a fast, straightforward 2D arcade shoot 'em up in the spirit of the classics.

The invasion starts with a gentle warm-up so you can get to know every enemy, and builds up to a relentless finale. Expect formations that align, rotate and reshuffle in real time, squads sweeping across the screen, ambushes that appear without warning and, in the final levels, slow hunters that chase you down and never let you stand still.

Controls

  • Move your ship: W A S D (or arrow keys / gamepad D-pad)
  • Fire: automatic, your ship shoots on its own
  • Charged shot: hold Space or Enter (A on gamepad) to charge, then release to unleash it
  • Pause: P (Start on gamepad)

While you hold the fire button you stop shooting, because you are charging a more powerful shot. Once it is fully charged, releasing the button fires it.

Meet the invaders

  • Aliens: the backbone of every wave. Fragile, but they attack in swarms.
  • Lips: tougher, and they love to aim straight at you.
  • BonBon: shielded by projectiles orbiting around them. Break the shield, then strike.

Power-ups

Every so often a power-up drops onto the screen. Fly into it before it disappears. Upgrades are temporary, so make the most of them while they last.

  • Power (low, medium and high): your ship fires faster with boosted shots for 10, 15 or 30 seconds respectively. Grab another while one is active and the time adds up, up to a maximum.
  • Circle / Square weapon: for 30 seconds, your shots deal more damage, and your charged shot charges in half the time and fires a 5-projectile spread.
  • Extra life: adds one life and fully restores your health.

Features

  • Waves that go from simple to frantic
  • Random ambushes that can strike at any moment
  • Temporary power-ups and extra lives to keep you in the fight
  • Balanced difficulty: every bullet pattern can be dodged. Demanding, but fair
  • Continues, so one mistake doesn't end your run
  • Keyboard and gamepad support

The game is pretty good. I especially like the powerup system. There's just one thing I have a problem with. There's no sound for the charge shot being ready. I don't like constantly looking at the meter.
